How To Fix Leaky Situation

It’s been a long day of work and you’re finally home. Before you start dinner after an exhausting day, you notice your leaky toilet. You shrug and continue about the rest of your evening unaware of the exponential cost of that leaky toilet.  A leaking toilet can use a lot of water, in a matter of days. A typical toilet leak at today’s rate can add $500 to a single water bill. What can you do to stop that leak? It’s easy when you follow these instructions for an effective leak repair.

The First Step: Find the Leak

The best way to determine where the leak is coming from is with food coloring. Put a few drops into the toilet bowl and let it sit for a few moments before flushing. See if the food coloring is running on the ground. If it is, the leak is coming from the base of the toilet. If it doesn’t, then retry the experiment. Put food coloring in the bowl again, wait a few moments, and then flush. If there is still colored water in the bowl of the toilet after you flush then the tank may have a leak.

The Second Step: Call in a Professional

Now that you’ve found the leak, the next steps get a little bit more complex. Do not attempt to fix a leak on your own as it requires the attention and expertise of a qualified technician. Contact the trained technicians at Metro Rooter today to get started on your plumbing services.
